Pico: Idea for cording to play chromatically in a major scale.

For the curious, I made a Max patch to test this layout out. It can be downloaded here :

You don't need Max to test it, you can run it using the runtime available here : http://cycling74.com/downloads/

You will need to have your Pico set to the major scale with C as a tonic with the MIDI output enabled.

I personally think it works quite well and I hope something like this will be implemented !

Hello, I've been thinking about the idea of cording like John mentioned in another post. The idea is to extend the range in monophonic mode. I have came up with this : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/149476/pico_cording.png

The basic idea is that you can reach semitones in a major scale for each note. The layout seems quite logical to me and easy for beginners. Let me know what you think ! Thanks !

This may work for patches that don't have pitch bend or other controllers applied. I'm wondering how practical this would be though. For a most chords, 5 keys would need to be depressed.

I do see your logic behind this. Would need to play with this awhile to see if it works in practice, but I bet it wouldn't be extremely difficult to implement. (Easy to say as I'm not the coder, eh?)

The way I see it, that would only work in monophonic mode (I was thinking about the clarinet in particular) meaning you could still use the keys to bend when doing an altered note although perhaps only one key could be active for simplicity.
